Automated Buildings – The University of Toronto Selects Cypress Envirosystems for their 2014 Green Ribbon Award March 20th 2015
SAN JOSE, Calif., October 20, 2014 – Cypress Envirosystems today announced that it has been selected by the University of Toronto for its prestigious Green Ribbon Award highlighting extensive work in improving the efficiency of buildings throughout its campus with the Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat (WPT). The University recognizes outstanding achievements in campus sustainability annually by awarding the Green Ribbon to only one external partner, in addition to students, faculty and staff. The University of Toronto’s Green Ribbon is the latest in a series of key customer and industry awards that Cypress Envirosystems has received. Cypress Envirosystems and its products have also been awarded the Building Operating Management’s (BOM) Top Products Award, Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration (ACHR) News Gold Award, Association of Energy Engineers’ (AEE) Best Emerging Technology Award, Building Green’s Top-10 Products Award, and many others.

TODAY’S FACILITY MANAGER – The HVAC Factor: Wireless Thermostat Conversion August 12th 2013
Early in 2011, the City of Oakland (CA), Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), and Quantum Energy Services & Technologies, Inc. (QuEST) established the Oakland Shines Program. This program, which deployed resources gleaned from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, represented an ambitious energy efficiency effort for the city. A five million dollar grant enabled QuEST to offer significant financial incentives and to leverage PG&E rebates and assistance.

Glenborough has built a reputation for energy efficiency across its portfolio. Now it's pushing for a new level of energy performance from its headquarters.
The numbers tell the story for Glenborough, LLC, a full service real estate investment and management company. Ninety-five percent of its buildings either qualify for, or have received, the Energy Star label. The average score for the portfolio is 84 on a scale of 100, with Glenborough recognized as an Energy Star 2012 Top Performer.

Operating and maintaining one of the nation’s top hospitals requires knowledge and experience; Walt Dubois has both. He has spent the last 13 years working at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, a 673-bed, not-for-profit teaching hospital in Phoenix. It is composed of nine interconnected facilities and six additional onsite buildings, totaling more than 2.7 million sq ft. Holding both a principal engineer (P.E.) and certified healthcare facility manager (CHFM) designation, Dubois has been an invaluable asset. “This is a dynamic environment,” the facility manager says. “There is no room for complacency here.”

For Class A office buildings, which compete for the most prestigious tenants and command the highest rents, expectations are considerable. No one makes allowances for, say, a Class A building’s age or the types of systems installed. And so it is for 345 California Center, a 48-story, mixed-use property in San Francisco’s financial district. Looking to keep down costs while improving the tenant experience and making a statement about how technology is being applied to make the building work smarter and better, Chief Engineer Tim Danz sought to upgrade from pneumatic controls dating from the facility’s mid-1980s completion to direct digital control (DDC).

Green Building & Design – Glenborough’s VP of Engineering Hones in on Energy Conservation October 4th 2012
For every one kilowatt of energy used in an office building, it takes about two or three kilowatts at a power plant to create that energy, and for Carlos Santamaria, vice president of engineering at Glenborough, that’s a few kilowatts too many.
Something of an energy-conservation crusader, Santamaria is currently working with consultant teams to install metering, wireless pneumatic thermostats (WPTs), and energy controls and to implement mechanical-system upgrades to Glenborough’s 42-year-old corporate headquarters.

The Wall Street Journal – NASA Ames Research Center Deploys Cypress Envirosystems’ Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat to Save Energy and Reduce Costs November 11th 2011
Cypress Envirosystems, a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq:CY), today announced that its Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat (WPT) has been installed in fourteen buildings at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. The WPTs replaced almost 1,400 legacy analog pneumatic thermostats in approximately 1.5 million square feet of office and laboratory space in order to save energy, enable ongoing commissioning and reduce maintenance costs.
